As a flagship health facility for Western Australia and the biggest design and construct project that Brookfield Multiplex has undertaken, the $2 billion 783-bed Fiona Stanley hospital is a landmark design.

  • $2 billion 783-bed
  • More than 200,000 square metres
  • Symmetrical plan with two “lobes” and a set of three lift core clusters mirrored down the main axis of the building

Requirements

  • From massive 2.4m thick radiation proof walls of the oncology unit, to 6.5m high sloping retaining walls.
  • Tight schedule
  • Fast construction of the main building lift / service cores and suspended slabs
  • The suspended slabs with unique “saw-tooth” edge

Customer

CASC Constructions Pty Ltd, G & N Formwork (WA) Pty Ltd, D & Z Constructions Pty Ltd

Benefit to customer

  • Effective planning, design and execution of the formwork systems
  • Significant time saving
  • Completling well ahead of schedule

PERI solution

  • Using the self-climbing RCS Rail Climbing System and Trio Formwork that was able to provide the speed, flexibility in crane friendly modules to be effectively used twice with minimal modification and re-assembly, thus virtually halving the core formwork requirements.
  • The body of the slab was formed with the Skydeck panel system with early striking capability, leaving the slab perimeter to be formed using the VT Table concept.
  • The tables were customised for each location, which would remain unchanged for the height of the building (and mostly unchanged to the mirrored side).
  • Handrails were integrated into the table edge providing maximum safety.
  • Fast cycling of the tables was achieved using the Peri Lifting Fork which could be adjusted for the wide range of shapes and configurations to always provide a balanced and stable lift.
